2009 Volkswagen CC VR6 4Motion   It’s not often a VW comes along that really works to draw exciting attention to itself. I say this with much respect as VW has a strong identifiable brand and a model line-up that suits just about every consumer on the road. The all-new 2009 Volkswagen CC is truly a breath of fresh air and a step in a bold new direction for VW design. With smooth, yet pronounced exterior lines that flow from the front grille to the rear deck lid, the VW CC actually reminds me of a Mercedes CLS. First Drive The interior of the CC took me by surprise. Yes, it had the same VW (German) feel inside, but with more flair. The seats were sporty and the stitching was eye catching. The instrument panel was clean and modern with dials easily identifiable. The illuminated tachometer and speed gauges (at night) also drew my attention as they screamed…look at me…I’m sporty.     Getting behind the wheel, the CC had plenty of pick-up and is a sporty ride. It’s not a Jetta and it’s not a Passat. It really is in its own class. The suspension was tight, but forgiving enough to be a great touring sedan. Putting the CC to the freeway onramp test, no problem there…flip the automatic shifter knob into the sport mode and the driving dynamics became more aggressive.  Under the Hood! The CC isn’t designed to be a sports car and the horsepower under the hood doesn’t reflect great top end speed, however, the CC had plenty of chutzpah.

The CC comes in two engine options, the award winning 2.0 TSI 4-cylinder engine, which is more known for its 207 foot-pounds of torque than its 200 horsepower engine. The VR6 6-cylinder 4Motion pumps out an impressive 280 horsepower and 265 lbs of torque.    The Interior! At the top, I made mention of the interior and how refined it seems to be and I wanted to save the seat design for this section. VW hit a home run with the seat design. Not only does the CC come with a unique stitching design, but the seats come in a two-tone leather combination that is black around the outside, but a beautiful tan through the middle. The navigation was user friendly and functional. One part of the technical features of the interior was the electronic parking brake. I found this function to be quite annoying as every time I put the car into park and turned the engine off…the brake engaged.         The Bottom Line! The Volkswagen CC is a great transitional vehicle if you are looking to go from a Civic, Corolla or Focus to a more refined vehicle. With a great starting price for the base model of $27,100, the CC tops out nearly 12K more at $39,000 for the fully loaded CC VR6 4Motion.
