We’re only just getting over the Detroit auto show, but the Tokyo Auto Salon is already underway in Japan. There, Toyota is offering more hints at its future sports coupe with this FT-86 G Sports concept. Last fall we saw the FT-86 concept , a sports car that’s being co-developed by Subaru and Toyota. It used a 2.0-liter flat-four Subaru engine coupled to a six-speed transmission with rear-drive. We expected a $20,000 base price and production by late 2011. This G Sports vehicle shown in Tokyo is supposed to be a customized version of the FT-86 concept. It comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter rear-drive powertrain and spans

the same dimensions as last fall’s concept. It also has Recaro seats and Potenza RE050 tires wrapped around 19-inch wheels. This concept may give a better idea of the styling direction for Toyota’s half of the Toyobaru coupe. Or it might just be the design department having some fun. Stay tuned for more updates.
