The family friendly Infiniti crossover is here. Do not adjust your eyeballs. You have already seen this vehicle. Infiniti unveiled a JX concept in Pebble Beach in August, and as we wrote then, this L.A. production version is pretty much the same—right down to the color. Infiniti has now, however, confirmed a few of our hunches and added a heaping helping of additional details, including pricing. 2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible Shown in Production Trim at L.A. Show
Infiniti’s Performance Line officially becomes a “line” with this souped-up G for sun lovers. The Infiniti Performance Line was launched late last year with but a single model, a sharpened and slightly more powerful version of the G37 coupe called the IPL G coupe . In August, Infiniti showed us what an IPL G convertible would look like and announced—to no one’s surprise—that the convertible also would make it to dealers. Now Infiniti has debuted the production IPL G for extroverts at the 2011 Los Angeles auto show . 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG Photos and Info: Twin-Turbo V8, As Much as 550 Horses
Presenting the next-generation ML AMG. Why? Just because. If being politically correct is as appealing to you as driving a railroad spike through your foot—and you’ve got some bucks—you’re probably in the target demographic for an insanely powerful sport-utility vehicle. They’re wasteful and unnecessary—which is exactly the point. You don’t buy a hyper-powerful SUV for serious off-roading, and you don’t buy one to take it to the racetrack or conquer the Dragon. You also don’t buy one to celebrate Earth Day. You buy one just because . Spyshots: Mercedes-Benz CLC/BLS 2013
We have just released spyshots of the New Generation SL , and we think Mercedes-Benz is on a roll, as they produce and test cars one after another. This time, AutoEvolution showed shots of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLC/BLS, a four door compact coupe. It is said to be part of the A-Class range, yet it shows heavy styling based on the CLS. It is also rumored to contain the 4-cylinder turbocharged units, front-wheel drive or all-wheel for the higher versions. Autoevolution also mentioned that it will be available in the US. Tanom Motors Brings Production Invader TC-3 to SEMA 2011
Tanom Motors Brings Production Invader TC-3 to SEMA 2011
Following last year’s reveal of the Invader TC-3 Prototype, Tanom Motors (if the name doesn’t sound familiar it’s because they used to be called Talon Motors) received plenty of feedback and decided to modify the Invader before bringing it into production. At this year’s SEMA Show , they unveiled the final production model – the Tanom Motors Invader TC-3. The primary modifications done to the Invader include a longer and wider wheelbase, and a larger size overall. Not changed is the Invader’s 194hp, 1,340 cc engine from a Suzuki Hayabusa mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. Doesn’t sound like much, but considering the car/bike/thing only weighs in at 1040 lbs, it’s enough to propel it from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds to a top speed of 150 mph. I’m curious to see what it’ll do around a track. Inside, drivers get the typical sports car getup – two bucket racing seats, detachable steering wheel, three pedals, cup holders, glove box, and a few other things you’ll see in a car but not a super bike, and that’s the point. Three wheels – 20-inchers in the front and 18-inch in the rear, steer the car and are influenced by a fully adjustable suspension and four- and six-piston calipers on disc brakes all the way around. Optional are chrome and carbon fiber packages (no specifics given there,) a rear spoiler, embroidered floor mats, and an upgraded Rockford Fosgate GPS/audio system. Fuel economy in the Invader TC-3 comes in at 28/35 mpg – respectable considering the performance. Pricing isn’t official, but I remember overhearing something around the $50,000 mark at SEMA. Test Drive: AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport 3.0d
Test Drive: AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport 3.0d
The fellows at GT Spirit share us with their test drive review of the AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport 3.0d. Unfortunately for those of us that live in the US, the sporty and elegant-looking 5 Series Touring is not available, in any form or setup. Without any further ado, let’s have see an excerpt from their review. “Even though the combination of a touring body and a diesel engine wouldn’t be our first choice, we took the AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport 3.0d for a trip around the town of Aachen, the hometown of the German tuner. The Alpine White 530d we tried was equipped with every possible electronic gimmick, a stiffer suspension kit by AC Schnitzer and the stock Variable Damper Control, or possibly Adaptive Drive, in either case incorporating the Drive Dynamic Control chassis configurator that has four ride quality settings to choose from: Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+. The settings offered us a great way of adapting our setup while cruising through the city finding a place to shoot our photos. The 530d’s 3.0 liter six-cylinder diesel engine allowed the journey to be done at effortless pace. The additional oomph added to the setup increases the horsepower to 286hp at 4,000rpm (+43hp) and the maximum torque to 620Nm between 2,000 and 3,000rpm (+80Nm). The difference in power is not readily felt by those who aren’t used to the turbodiesel engine, but the spokesperson at AC Schnitzer ensured us that an additional push had been accomplished in the mid-rev range. Also a twin sports rear silencer with chromed Sports Trim tailpipe trims was fitted to the vehicle and offered us an improved sound track while cruising. At first the Touring doesn’t immediately feel that quick thanks to its 1,800kg kerbweight, but when you floor the throttle and take a glance at the speedometer it will always confirm that you’re travelling faster than you initially thought. Combine this with the ride, which is as comfortable as sitting in your luxury living room at home watching your favorite television series, and you have a wonderful combination of elegance, performance and practicality.” Full review at GT Spirit. Dodge Challenger SRT8 ACR: 2011 SEMA Live Photos
Sporting a range of Mopar upgrades and weight-saving features, better aerodynamics, and slightly more power, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 ACR shown at the 2011 SEMA show makes us hope the brand decides to build it for production. As the photos show, the Challenger ACR looks a bit meaner than the average SRT8, but it has the bit to back it up: Mopar… View original here: Dodge Challenger SRT8 ACR: 2011 SEMA Live Photos
Hyundai Adding Turbocharged Veloster, Refreshed Genesis Coupe
Hyundai Adding Turbocharged Veloster, Refreshed Genesis Coupe
Historically, Hyundai has never been known for offering anything performance related. The Tiburon was mostly a failure at attracting any kind of enthusiasts. The rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe started to change things though, and recently Hyundai upped the ante with the 5.0 R-Spec Genesis Sedan. The company still has a long way to go though, and via Car and Driver Chief Executive Officer John Krafcik has shed some lights on plans to boost power for its two “performance” models. We say “performance” with quotations because, while Hyundai categorizes its front-wheel drive Veloster as a sporty entrant, its hard to call it one. While being lightweight, the 138 horsepower four-cylinder doesn’t move it all that quickly. To offer something for those looking for a more involving drive, Hyundai has announced a turbocharged version. The turbo Veloster will get a 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 204 hp. Now that’s more like it! A boost of 66 ponies will be the shot in the arm that the Veloster needs. Hopefully, along with the added power will come some suspension and other tweaks. Hyundai is hoping its new Veloster will find a foothold younger buyers wanting to stand out. Small cars have been getting increasingly more competitive and stylish lately, as buyers are looking for more fuel-efficient options. More stylish options is a welcome change. Remember econoboxes from a few years back? On second thought, don’t. They don’t bring back great memories. Hyundai is pitching the Veloster as a sporty offering, slotting in (very much so in our opinion) the Genesis Coupe. Given that Hyundai considers the Veloster part of its “performance” portfolio, the Genesis Coupe will be getting upgraded to provide more of a separation in power between the two. We doubt the Veloster will prove much of a threat, but it’s good to see the Genesis Coupe getting some improvements regardless. Given Hyundai’s consistent updates to the Genesis sedan, it has been overdue for some tweaking. Tweaks will include boosting the base Genesis Coupe’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four, as well the updated six-cylinder from the sedan. That means the refreshed Genesis should offer 333 hp from its top-end naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter. No word...

Chevrolet Volt and Cruze Eco Compared: Can Massaged Old Tech Hang with the Car of Tomorrow?
We embark on a mileage marathon of over 40 mpg to see if old tech can be massaged to hang with the car of tomorrow. Like some pro party animal tripping across the 40-year threshold into middle age, today’s car world is fraught with 40-mpg angst. Even Ferraris and F-150s are heading toward the big Four-Oh by gummint decree. The good news: We get to curb Middle Eastern oil-freighter traffic while enjoying new strides in efficiency. Major mpg has escaped the lab and infiltrated our new-car fleet, and everybody feels like a winner. Production Toyota FT-86 Revealed Via Leaked Accessory Brochure
Cat, say good-bye to the bag. Early this morning, scanned images of an accessory brochure for the upcoming rear-drive Toyota FT-86 sports car hit the web . The photos, although blurry, not only give away the FT-86’s production styling, but several cool features it might have as well. The FT-86 and its Subaru BRZ sibling are set to be officially unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo auto show. Here in the U.S., we will get the Subaru version and a Scion-badged FT-86 called the FR-S . The exterior of the Toyota is largely predictable, and successfully cobbles together styling elements from the various concept cars that preceded it. The car’s profile, headlights, taillights, and rear diffuser are all familiar pieces. The front fascia is a bit toned down from the show cars’, which were festooned with LED running lights and barb-like splitter extensions; the production car has taken on a 2012 Camry SE -like mug. As we already mentioned, the leaked brochure is something of an accessory catalog, so the gaudy trim on the door and rocker panel extensions probably aren’t stock FT-86 fare. Having never seen inside any of the FT-86 concept cars, we’re getting our first look at the Toyota’s interior with this brochure. The good news is that the cockpit appears functional and sporty, although we aren’t sure whether the trim and two-tone color scheme is stock or to what extent the interior in the photos has been accessorized. The gauge cluster puts the tachometer front and center, flanked by a speedometer to the left and fuel and temperature gauges to the right. The car’s front seats look very promising and feature large thigh and torso bolsters. The center stack is attractive and houses dual-zone climate controls, a starter button, and what looks like a radio-delete panel just below the center air vents. Unfortunately for the hard-core sports-car fans out there hoping for a stripped-out, lightweight model, we think the panel simply hides the audio controls (the interior has automatic climate control and seat heaters, so dropping the radio doesn’t make a whole lot of sense). As previously reported, the FT-86 will be available with two six-speed transmissions—a manual and an automatic—and both can be seen in the photographs. Behind the shifter is a...
