Romp through the twilight of the Golden Age of Porn in a black Ferrari Dino [Video]
The 1980 movie Insatiable is one of the classics of cinematic pornography. Thirty years on, it raises strange questions about the longevity of porn versus that of ‘70s Ferraris. Here, in all its big budget and completely SFW glory, is Marilyn Chambers driving a black Dino for several helicopter-shot minutes. What about the U.S.? Chevrolet Shows Second, “Rally” Colorado Pickup Concept in Argentina
At the Buenos Aires auto show this week, Chevrolet is showing another concept of its next-generation Colorado pickup, this time in jacked-up, left-hand-drive, double-cab “Rally” form. When we last saw the truck three months ago—halfway around the world in Thailand—it was as the sleek, right-hand-drive, extended-cab Colorado concept . This latest take is a real feast for the eyes, with fat fenders, front and rear winches, and more ancillary lights than an ambulance. The production version certainly will be toned down, but from what we can tell from looking at both trucks, the next Colorado is going to look pretty cool. We’re still unclear on whether we will see the truck in North America. Chevy PR isn’t much help, hemming and hawing when asked if we’ll get it, saying words to the effect of “well, it’s a global truck,” but little else. While the mid-size truck segment has been slow of late, a U.S. introduction for at least a commercial version of the Colorado is looking more and more likely, given that the same economic forces that have made the Ford Transit Connect viable for the van market also apply to pickup market. Such a truck would have to prove beefy enough to handle professional duties, and would likely have to offer at least one gas-powered V-6 on the order sheet, although the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel supposedly installed in this Rally concept would probably pull as many stumps as any gas-fired six-pot GM could come up with. “The Rally Colorado Concept is looking to the future of the global Chevrolet pickups,” said GM, in a translated statement. We think that future ought to include GM’s home market. More: What about the U.S.? Chevrolet Shows Second, “Rally” Colorado Pickup Concept in Argentina Read the original here: What about the U.S.? A Look Inside GM Technical Center’s Restoration
By Delf Dodge Director, Global Operations, GM Research This year marks the 55th anniversary of the GM Technical Center – an ideal time to reflect on the innovative and flexible plan of its architect, Eero Saarinen, what’s being done to preserve this architectural masterpiece, and to prepare it for the generations of employees to come. Over the years, a team of GM employees have helped to maintain the campus’ integrity and earn it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, the designation as a “Most Outstanding Architectural Achievements of its Era” from the American Institute of Architects, and a “Michigan Top 10 Architectural Gem.” Their interest, understanding and commitment are vital to our community of designers, researchers, engineers and craftspeople who draw inspiration and context from the property and its physical spaces for the world class cars and trucks they create today. They are also instrumental in making sure GM employees have access to the cutting edge technology, tools and equipment that are vital to our global footprint and competitiveness. At GM Research, we have spearheaded a number of projects as part of our Research & Development Master Facility Plan. Each project brings with it a new and deeper level of appreciation for the incredible features and meticulous attention to detail of Saarinen’s original design. Whether it’s restoring and reframing paintings by renowned artists like Ernst and Scheeler, bringing back the natural beauty of the hardwood panels inside Kettering Hall, or the comprehensive renovations to the various laboratories and building mechanicals at the Metallurgy and Science Buildings, this campus always rewards and inspires with its dramatic response to the attentions of an interested steward. Upgrades to restore the appearance and function of the Research Administration Building (RAB) Main Lobby include refinishing the original seating designed by Saarinen specifically to occupy this space in black leather and a new area rug woven in sage, black and cream to match the character of the shredding original. The most striking feature of the lobby area is the suspended spiral staircase designed by Kevin Roche. Treads are made of Norwegian emerald pearl granite weighing 1,500 pounds each. Total...
