Mercedes-AMG is paving the way ahead with the new SLS AMG with electric drive. The performance brand within Mercedes-Benz Cars is developing an exciting super sports car with zero-emission high-tech drive. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGwith electric drive transforms the vision of powerful and locally emission-free super sports cars into reality thanks to an innovative drive system: powerful forwards thrust is provided by four electric motors with a combined peak output of 392 kW and a maximum torque of 880 Nm. The four electric motors are positioned near the wheels, substantially reducing the unsprung masses compared to wheel-hub motors. One transmission per axle transmits the power. This intelligent all-wheel-drive system allows dynamically optimised power transmission without any losses by means of Torque Vectoring – in other words the specifically targeted acceleration of individual wheels. In its first pilot phase, the SLS AMG with electric drive incorporates a liquid-cooled high-voltage lithium-ion battery of modular design with an energy content of 48 kWh and a capacity of 40 Ah. New spy shots have emerged today depicting the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class running test laps on the Nürburgring. Clad in heavy camouflage and temporary body panels, little of the model’s styling is visible, leaving us to wonder what exactly lies in store for the next roadster. As far an engines are concerned, rumors indicate that the next-generation SLK will receive at least one diesel power plant in addition to its petrol counterparts – whether or not it will make it to the U.S. is an entirely different story. A Volkswagen spokeswoman in Mexico told Reuters that Volkswagen has invested $1 billion to expand its Mexico facility to start producing a new model. Volkswagen’s investment is a sign of confidence for Mexico’s auto industry, which accounts for a fifth of the country’s total exports. The plant currently builds Jettas, Boras and new Beetles. “The production of the new model will start in March or April of 2010,” spokeswoman Consuelo Minutti said. What will the new model be? We’ll let you know as soon as we find out – but we’re hoping for a new Beetle. In May, Volkswagen began production of its new U.S. factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The plant will begin production of a new mid-sized sedan designed specifically for the North American market for 2011. Suzuki, which was recently told by analysts to give up on the American market , is working hard to expand its small fuel-efficient vehicle lineup. According to Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, Suzuki has set aside R&D money to study the possibility of hybrids and electric-vehicles with a focus on larger platforms. The Kizashi Concept, which made its debut in 2007, was considered to be a possible candidate for a large hybrid vehicle. It has yet to be confirmed whether Suzuki will offer a hybrid variant of its upcoming Kizashi 3 sedan. Nonetheless, the Japanese automaker is restructuring its R&D division with one unit working on electric-vehicles and the other unit working on hybrids with longtime partner General Motors. A third unit is also working on Suzuki-developed hybrids and conventional gasoline engines. After the Car Allowance Rebate System has been finally explained and understood, the next thing you would have to consider is what happens to those old cars traded in. Though not all of them are operable, you have to wonder if they will ultimately end up in the junkyard for scraps. But apparently not “all” of it will. There are still parts that can be used. For cars, damage means only part and not in whole. Technically this is a form or recycling , offering motorists an alternative as far as cheaper spare parts just in case they don’t want to avail of the CARS program . As for inoperable ones, they will end up as scrap metal for sure. Why would they be retained for no purpose other than to be reused for other purposes? This is of course all the other salvageable parts of the car that can be used has been taken out. And we all know the hundreds of parts that they carry. The modified supercar features an enhanced cold air induction system and an optimized exhaust, which enables the Bugatti’s massive 8.0-liter 16 cylinder engine to produce 1109 hp and 1310 Nm of torque (instead of the standard 1001 hp and 1250 Nm of torque). In terms of styling, Mansory equips the Linea Vincero Veyron with an extensive carbon-fiber body kit that includes a shorter hood, a new front apron, revised side skirts, and an aggressive rear diffuser. The company also adds a “V” insignia to the front grille, LED daytime running lights, and fully-forged turbine-design wheels. A new report by the Associated Press says that Rick Wagoner, the former CEO of General Motors who was given the boot by the Obama administration, will get a retirement package worth at least $10M. The number includes $1.64 million in benefits for each of the next five years plus an annual pension of $74,000 for the rest of his life. He also has the option of cashing in his company life insurance policy which would net him another $2.6M. Shocking numbers to some, but let's face facts here, it's peanuts compared to many other big time CEOs, most of whom put in far less time and effort than Wagoner ever did during his nearly 30 years with GM. Bob Nardelli reportedly took home over $200 million in severance after just six years at Home Depot. Hard to imagine that any GM or Chrysler workers will be shedding a tear for either one of them. I’m not sure why he acts dumb and unprofessional selling million dollar cars. The dealership is located in Missouri which is a suprise, I thought this would be filmed in Dubai or California. Due to the current state of the economy, GM was recently given the permission to put a halt to 54 sponsorships including advertising and marketing contracts in the US. These cuts will save GM millions of dollars which will hopefully help the company regain its footing in the shakey encomoy. WorldCarFans reports that due to these budget cuts the Chevrolet Clock in Times Square that has been standing since the 1930s will be dismantled. With all of this help from the government will it be enough to save GM? Or will it only prolong the inevitable effectively slowing the company’s death? Only time will tell.
